The Human Touch
It all began on a small island, Trinidad.
A girl with thick hair that intimidated most hairstylist at the time, was made to feel like her hair was too difficult of a feat for someone to care for. She moved to Florida in her early adulthood and was captivated by the scale of beauty on her tour of a Cosmetology school. She realized the lens of science that she aquired as her focus in school, had a place in understanding how hair works.
11 years later, Shimilia is still in awe of hair and have created sacred spaces for women with textured hair, like herself.
Helping other women discover how to care for and love their texture, gives the same fulfillment as she experienced when she first discovered how to care for hers.
Shimilia has re-iterated this many times; " I love the fact that I get to support women in an area that is so personal, they trust my genius in the exploration and end up discovering and amplifying their true essence." She has known this work is sacred for a long time and is honored to contribute to it every day.
The hair genius
If we had to describe Shimilia's methodology in the textured hair space. It would be at the intersection of:
- Science
- Art
- Tech
- Care
- Devotion
She sees maps in her mind that allow her to create easy to follow systems for her clients.
The experience with Shimilia is like no other, she will locate you wherever you are in your understanding of your hair and create a personalized care print for you to accomplish your hair goal. It is truly Ingenius, how she studies each client and documents their journey. You can hear more about this in Szn 1 of Hair Talk when she interviewed her Trinidad clients.
The Care Agent
We would say 50% care and devotion + 50% advocate, is the reason we call her a Care Agent.
Shimilia's passion for textured hair is expressed in many ways, her activism through conversation. she facilitates dialogues that expose truths from professionals behind the chair, to students eager to enter the hair industry to clients, who found their ideal look through working with her.
Unique and resilient, the power within Shimilia for the love of Textured Hair is a light to all. The compounding of this with her skills and experiences, as a salon owner, a product educator, a podcast host, a formal hair educator for licensure, a travelling hair stylist supporting clients in Florida as well as Trinidad. Her commitment to the cause is inspiring and comforting.
Hair Education is her ultimate goal to transfer her love and her lens to future hairstylist, so we can have an army of hair care advocates leading the Textured Hair Care Lane.
